Be sure your love is true love. Hate what is sinful. Hold tightly to whatever is good. Romans 12:9
As many of you know, this past fall our oldest son Samuel entered as a first year Marine in the Corp of Cadets at Virginia Tech. Virginia Polytechnic Institute is one of only two major public universities to host a senior military college as part of a larger civilian university. Lord willing, if he’s able to reach the end he will graduate with a college degree as a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corp. It is an incredibly challenging four-year program that began with 45 other NROTC freshmen, now just nine remain. He was home for just five days before his scheduled trip to Coronado, California where he’ll be stationed for a month.
Lisa and I have greatly missed him but no more than his youngest siblings have. There is something that is communicated in a love which is pure and unfiltered. As you can see by this video, their love was on display. Equally excited is when he took them to Cross School for their day classes- they literally did not want to let him go!
Our love for one another should always be like this – but sin, pride, and the cares of this world so often get in the way. But we should never stop trying, because pure love is from God and lasts forever. The Apostle Paul wrote: Three things will last forever – faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love.
