As many have asked for updates concerning our oldest son, Sam, here is the latest. Last Saturday, Lisa and I dropped him off at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. He was awarded a Marine ROTC scholarship to The Corp of Cadets. Virginia Tech is one of only two major public universities to host a senior military college as part of a larger civilian university. He’s been training for close to four years to ready himself for this incredible adventure. Lord willing, if he’s able to reach the end, he will graduate with a college degree as a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corp.

Lisa and I were surprised to discover that 20% drop out by the end of the first year. It’s a very hard road but he feels ready for the challenge. This last week has been very hard for Lisa and me – as after talking to him every day for 18 years, suddenly there is now silence. The dynamics of our house have changed as well – less noise, less dishes, less conversation. We greatly miss him and yet all the years of prayer have made a difference. We’re immensely proud – his love for this country and, even more so, for his Savior have prepared him for a time such as this. Thank you to our Church family for your love, prayers and support.
