Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (Anglican Book of Common Prayer)
Advent is a time of anticipating and preparing for an arrival. We are in the middle of two advents – remembering the first arrival of Christ and looking ahead to the second arrival of Christ. During this season of preparation, remembering, anticipation and reflection, my prayer is for you to draw closer to Christ. One suggestion is to read a chapter of the Gospel of Luke each day leading up to Christmas. Others may want to write out scriptures or the names of Christ. Starting today and leading up to Christmas on The Church of the Cross Facebook page a different name of Jesus will be posted with scripture references. I encourage you to look up the verses and use those verses to reflect on the gift that changed the world and each of us as believers in Jesus Christ.

Whatever you do, may your focus be on Christ rather than the many things that can distract us in December.
