Am I a Pollyanna, oblivious to the earthquakes, fires, storms, disease and conflicts of every ilk spawning gloomy clouds above much of this old world? Am I hiding my head in the sand when I welcome folks to a worship service with: “It’s a beautiful day in the Lowcountry?” I think not! Jesus was neither an optimist nor a pessimist; He was a realist with double vision: He saw things as they were and as they could be . . . and by God’s grace I endeavor to do the same. I know that dark and dreary days are a reality on our earthly pilgrimage; but I know, too, that we’re only passing through these environs on our way to “a home far beyond the skies” . . . a home lovingly prepared for us in which sorrow and death are no more and the Light of the World always shines: it is the Land of the Uncloudy Day.
The evangelist Vance Havner was on point when he said: “We [Christians] are not always on the bright side, but we are on the right side; and the right side will be the bright side ultimately, but not always immediately.” The skies above Calvary were clothed in dark clouds when Jesus died; but three days later the Son came up for all of us . . . open your eyes of faith, dear ones: “It’s a beautiful day in the Lowcountry!”
Get Involved with Our Ministries
One of the most important ways to get connected at The Church of the Cross is to first become a member of our congregation. If you are not a member and you are interested in learning more about membership, please call the Parish Office (843.757.2661) and speak to Sue.
Membership begins with an informal meeting with clergy. The next step in getting connected would be joining a Bible Study or small group to be in community with other Believers.
