It’s a beautiful day with a light breeze and the sun high in the sky. I’m sat down for lunch with a friend who pastors on the island. Yesterday’s conversation still ringing in my mind and heart.
We’ve been talking about the Big Picture of the Bible, this band of brothers I meet with every week, tracing the themes of the Bible from beginning to end. Genesis to Revelation. Our conversation yesterday revolved around Psalm 19 – “The heavens declare the glory of God” – and 2 Corinthians 4 – “For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness, ” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
Paul is pointing his readers attention backwards and upwards. Backwards to the light of creation. The light of creation didn’t shine forth from the sun or some other unnamed star. It shined forth from the Son of God. It was a display of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Paul points upwards as well. The blinding light of the sun, rising day by day, is merely a reflection of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Friends, his mercies are new morning-by-morning. And the sun which rises is a testament of Gods faithfulness. So, look up. See the sun risen in the sky, and remember that the Son is risen. May he be risen in your heart.
