Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. – 1 Peter 2:12
The Scripture mentioned above represents more than mere words on a page; it embodies the lifestyle and values of Christianity. Our actions and reactions are powerful tools for teaching and communicating our beliefs. How we respond to kindness or injustice, for instance, sends a message to those around us. When we choose to behave differently from what is expected, it catches people’s attention. Lisa and I discuss this topic with our children on a daily basis, emphasizing that their reactions, treatment of others, and responses to life’s challenges reflect who they are and what they stand for. Any negative behavior towards people, circumstances, or everyday situations reflects poorly not only on them, but also on Jesus Christ.
Our society is currently showing unprecedented levels of hostility towards Christianity. So, how should we respond? In the following weeks, I will begin a new series titled “Kingdom Come,” where we will explore how to bring Jesus’ prayer, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” into reality.
Each day, we have a choice to make – if we will be a witness and follow the One who sacrificed Himself for us. We do not have to be a gifted evangelist to have an impact, as our actions can speak louder than words. As St. Augustine once said, “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.” Everything we do teaches.
