For the past several years during the season of Advent, our family has placed hay daily in our coarsely made manger. Good behavior during the day, particularly with our younger children, meant they could place a larger handful of hay in the manger. It was Lisa’s idea to create some excitement as we grew closer to Christmas but more importantly to teach them the purpose of Advent. Our children have loved it and looked forward to placing the hay in the manger before leaving for school daily. Each Christmas morning before any gifts are opened, the greatest reward is the arrival of baby Jesus….our baby Jesus and placing Him in the manger.
