The Joy of the Lord

Katie, our youngest daughter just turned nine years old. Each of our six children have unique and special qualities. Without a doubt Katie's unbounded joy and zest for life is her greatest gift. Everything and anything is exciting and what she considers a new adventure. She is constantly filled with song (often from the songs she learns at school or church) and reminds us that she will one day be on American Idol, we don't have the heart to tell her that the series ended. Of course, because of her unbridled passion it can often lead to many tears, which everyone in the house will know about! However, there is a reason she loves every party and enjoys conversation with anybody that will talk with her. There is a reason she keeps Lisa and I in stiches on a daily basis. There is something advantageous about joy; I believe it is because it is good for the soul. The Bible speaks of joy over three hundred times, it is advantageous to be around and even better to express it. We are greater and nearer to the heart of God when joy intersects with our lives.

This is the reason the Psalmist wrote:

Shout with joy to the LORD, all the earth!
Worship the LORD with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.
Psalm 100:1-2
