“So what is this Christianity thing all about, what do you have to do?”
I was asked this question at the Food Bank this pass Tuesday. Ministers and many times Christians in general get a question that is said in passing but the questioner deep down hopes you have an answer. You’re on the spot and have to give them some kind of reply. As the scripture says, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that is in you.” 1 Peter 3:15.
So what is our hope…and to answer the question: What is this Christianity thing all about, what do you have to do?
As I answered, Christianity is not anything you do, it is something that is already been done for you. As was illustrated to me many years ago it’s the “Do-Done Relationship.”

This is the difference between Christianity and all the other religions. Religion is about doing…or following all the rules, the formulas, and the do’s and don’ts. All these are done with great effort in hopes that at the end of our days, we’ll be accepted by God. The great problem is, we never feel like we’ve done enough, or we could have done more, or see others who appear to be more holy, leading to a sense of fear and failure.
But the Gospel is so much greater than anything we have or haven’t done. The Heart of the Christianity is what has already been done for us. Jesus Christ has done for us would we could never do. Because of his love for us He lived the life we should have lived and died the death we should have died. We’re now a part of the family of God; all there is to do is to humbly accept it. So what is Christianity all about? It’s what Jesus Christ has done for us!
