I Believe in Angels
"Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it." Hebrews 13:2
The winter of 2017-18 was very trying for me. I worked as an outdoor parking lot attendant in Bu ffalo, NY. discerning my call to ministry. As I stood in the cold, I called on the Name of Jesus night and day. One day as I prayed while shoveling snow, a middle-aged African-American woman passed by as if going to the Children's Hospital.
With balloons in her hand, she suddenly stopped and said: "Excuse me, Sir - you look like you love God." I was startled by her proposition. "Do you love Him?" Tears began to swell out of my heart. As I choked with emotion I said, "Lady, I love God with my whole heart." She responded: "God knows that you love Him and He loves you for that. But you know what your problem is? You are hard-headed and impatient. You keep on blaming Satan for all the things that have happened to you - stop it! It's not Satan- but God that is testing you! Stop giving glory to Satan and give glory to God!"
I was startled and paralyzed. As tears flowed from my eyes I knew that it was God who was speaking to me through this stranger, "God has had to discipline you for being so impatient. The Lord says that when you've finally learned your lesson, that He will use you mightily because you love him. That job you wanted, that's coming. That money you need for your bills, that's coming. That vacation you wanted, that's coming. . . Oh yes! And that ministry, that's coming too! But you MUST LEARN PATIENCE!!"
I almost collapsed to my knees as I cried like a baby. As she began to turn away I asked her, " Madam, how do you know these things and what is your name?" She turned towards me with the attitude of a strong, black Matriarch. "You don't need to know my name - what you need to know is that you must learn PATIENCE. You'll know that God has spoken to you because you'll never see me again - and all of these words will come true." Then she turned away towards the hospital, and I never saw her again.
All her words have come true. God put me through the fires and taught me patience. That job, that money, that vacation and yes! that ministry - all came to me. You ask me if I believe in angels? I do, and so should you.
