Between God and Every Living Creature
Yesterday at the Historic Campus and today at Cross Schools we celebrated our annual Blessing of the Animals. As my years increase so does my understanding of seeing God’s Glory in every direction. Seeing and celebrating all of God’s creation. While the Bible clearly defines the differences between man and animals we also need to recognize that both share something unique. Both are living beings. Because God has a future plan for both mankind and Earth, the Bible strongly suggests that He has a future plan for animals as well. There’s a reason God put animals in the Garden of Eden, there’s a reason God saved the animals from the flood, there’s a reason that both Revelation and Isaiah talk of animals residing in the City of God. Even more fascinating is Genesis 9, God speaks of an Eternal Covenant He makes with every living creature on the earth: “When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.”
Romans 8 also paints a powerful picture of how mankind, animals and all of creation are linked together not only in judgment but also blessing and deliverance. Together they will experience life on the New Earth reflected in the Book of Revelation. Much of this is mystery and one that I cannot fully comprehend. However, it has given me a deeper appreciation of why we have such profound bonds with our animals. They are a blessing from the Lord and we celebrate them as such.
