The Advent season is upon us. I know because people are driving more aggressively, my mailbox is stuffed on a daily basis with magazines I never ordered, and I'm busier than at any other time in the year. I'm already tired and December has just begun.
I remember again why I'm so busy during this Advent season. It all began with the birth of Jesus Christ centuries ago. Advent has taken many forms for people and much of it has nothing to do with the birth of Christ. Santa Claus, Christmas trees, parties, lights, Nat King Cole, holiday colors, all are things that usher in the season - none are particularly bad, unless they pull us away from the real meaning of Advent. Jesus said, "For this reason I was born, and this reason I came into the world."
Are we seeking Jesus during this Advent season? Are we remembering that Christmas is not something that can be bought or created? The real meaning of Christmas can only be found, found in the promise with greatest gain: the Person of Christ.
Glorify God and enjoy Him forever,
