I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you. 2 Timothy 1:5-6

As we move into our normal Fall routine, I want to sound the charge.

The Bible teaches we are to be diligent in fanning the flame of faith that God has already placed in our children. At an early age they have a natural bent to believe and take God at face value. Only God gives the gift of faith but parents are ones that lead our children to Christ. The essential question: "Are we fanning the flame in our children or are we slowly putting it out?"

Having been a youth minister for nearly eight years, many of the children who "got it" spiritually were the ones whose mother or father deeply invested in seeing their faith cultivated. The parents were in church more than they were out. Their children were involved in the life and various ministries of the church. Of course, there are always bumps and bruises along the way, life is difficult; but in the end, when its all said and done, those closest to us many years from now will be called followers of Christ. With all the passion I can convey, I ask you to work hard this Fall to fan the flame of faith in your children. For those with no children or empty nesters, come along side those of us who are struggling as parents - we need your encouragement and assistance to let us know we're not alone.

Glorify God and enjoying Him forever,
