Everything We Do Teaches

Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. 1 Peter 2:12

This Sunday I'm giving a message on Glorifying God in a Pagan World. Maybe more than anytime in our Nation's History, our culture is becoming increasingly hostile toward Christianity. How then shall we live?

The above scripture is more than words on a page, but a lifestyle and ethos of Christianity. Everything we do teaches....everything. How we react or don't react bears witness. How we behave toward injustice communicates. How we choose to respond when treated with kindness or hostility teaches. A few weeks ago I was in Parkers getting lunch when a man cut in front of me to claim the last bit of food I was about to request. It didn't bother me as it might have in the past, I ended up grabbing a hotdog. As I was getting in my car one of the employees came out to thank me. He said "I already knew you were a minister, it's nice to see someone who acts like it." As I drove away I remember thinking, I am so glad I didn't overreact, (which I'm sure I would have done in the past) as people are always watching. When we react in a way that is NOT the norm, that is what catches people's eyes.

Lisa and I have conversations with our children concerning this on a daily basis. How they react, treat, and respond to whatever comes their way reflects who they are and what they believe. Responding poorly to people, circumstances, or just every day life reflects on them and Jesus Christ.

The great thing, is that we all have a choice everyday to "bear witness" and follow the One who gave His life for many. You don't have to be an Evangelist to have an influence; our actions will have a far greater impact than words. St. Augustine said, be diligent in extending "charity toward all" because everything we do teaches.

Glorify God & Enjoy Him Forever!
