Men of the Cross Logo

Our mission:"As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17)

Men of the Cross is here! Our logo-which combines the three crosses at Buckwalter with the distinctive door arch at Calhoun Street-is indicative of our mission to bring together men at both campuses as we follow Jesus Christ. We believe that we need to sharpen and hone one another. Thus our theme verse: "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17).

What is Men of the Cross? The new umbrella and structure at The Church of the Cross for men's ministry. Our board will meet every three months to plan and pray for men's ministry at our church. All board members (except for the Spiritual Director) will serve two year terms.

We encourage you to contact us with your ideas for men's ministry. The Men of the Cross Board members are:

Coordinator: Ray Cook
Annual Retreat Coordinator: Frank Byrd
Special Events Coordinator: Don Freeland
Outdoor Ministry: Clayton Colleran
Secretary: Allen Ware
Treasurer: Dave Mitchell
CCN Coordinator: Marc Ricciardi
Spiritual Director: Chris Royer

Men's Hike
May 1 - 3, 2009

Sixteen men from Church of the Cross hiked 14 miles in the Blue Ridge Mountains (near Cashiers, NC) for three days and two nights. In addition to the stunning scenery and incredible weather, we enjoyed getting to know both God and each other on a deeper level, as we discussed the physical and spiritual journeys of three prominent biblical characters: Jacob, David, and Paul. Thanks to all who prayed for us, and special thanks to Clayton Colleran, who organized the trip.

Hike

The men from both campuses of The Church of the Cross gather for many kinds of activities during the year. Everything from Bible and book studies, discussions of the challenges of work, family, and what it means to be a Christian man in today's world, to cook chili suppers, hikes, kayak trips, and complete work projects. If you are interested in being part of Men's Ministry at The Church of the Cross please contact Rev. Chris Royer at 757-2661.
