Blessing of the Animals - October 4 PDF Print E-mail

 
St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226), a man of great faith, spent his life traveling throughout Europe, preaching to the lost, the last and the least likely; he was known to speak and sing to animals of all shapes and sizes. Because of Francis’ love for all that God creates, it has become a tradition to conduct yearly services for the Blessing of the Animals, in honor of the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi. On Saturday, October 4th, at 4:00pm, The Church of the Cross will be conducting an outdoor service for the Blessing of the Animals on the Bluff on the Calhoun Street Campus. This service will include prayers and Scripture meditations celebrating and giving thanks to God for His created order. Adults and children alike are welcome to bring their pets (fluffy, scaly, winged, or hairy) to receive a blessing from Father Owens.

For the safety of all, animals must be contained or constrained, either by a sturdy carrying container, leash or halter. Join us to celebrate “all things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small.”
