A few days after Easter we returned home from a short family vacation to The Great Wolf Lodge indoor waterpark outside of Charlotte. After an incredible Holy Week I returned home Sunday afternoon to begin to pack the car for seven people. Whether it's a two-day trip or two weeks, we pack the same amount, I wonder if it's all going to fit. Lisa and I would pack and unpack the car four times in the next three days, each time it seemed like we had more.
Josiah, our two year old was unusually fussy the entire way to Charlotte, thus began the debate whether to take him to a doctor. I'm glad we did, two infected ears and pink eye! The wait at CVS, the drops in the eyes three times a day, he doesn't understand, but praise the Lord he's better two days later.
We arrive at The Great Wolf Lodge to discover friends from Bluffton...it's a small world. What a day, water flumes, the Tornado ride, the River Canyon Run, the kids wanted to stay longer but we ran out of money and energy.
We travel back to Nanny's house, and stay the night. After sharing beds with the children and getting repeatedly kicked in the head and other places I long to get home to a peaceful sleep. The next morning we get up to head home and pack the car.....again.
We arrive safely in Bluffton Thursday night...exhausted.
Even through the tiredness I feel great joy of being with my family. I feel happiness in all of it, the bickering of the children, the sickness, the packing, sleeping in different beds, figuring out how you're going to pay for all of it.
There's nothing like seeing up close just how great a mother my children have.
There's nothing like spending time with your oldest son and having him say how much he loves you.
There's nothing like laying on the floor eating popcorn and watching a movie with the child who just loves being next to you.
There's nothing like having your five-year-old say "it was the greatest day of her life" even though she said the same thing at a Birthday Party the week before.
There's nothing like spending time with the middle child who sometimes gets forgotten and seeing how much she loves the attention.
So there I was on that Friday feeling tired and yet at the same time incredibly full.
There's nothing like the Joys of Family!
